The Byzantine Castle is located in the Paphos Archealogical park and is close to the Paphos lighthouse, the Odeon and The House of Aion. The Castle was erected around 1200 A.D. It was destroyed by the earthquake of 1223 and was never rebuilt. The castle is know as the "Saranda Kolones" by the locals, which means the castle of forty columns.

Broken Granite columns can be seen at the site. There are supposed to be forty of these granite columns, hence the local name of "Saranda Kolones" (forty columns) |

Visitors to the site are free to walk around, but great care must be taken not to damage anything. |
